Right away in the first chapter of my memoir I write about how gravestones are much more than just letters and numbers. Put them together and they will start to tell stories, just like the one you mention. Have you ever tried to write a story from your great-grandfather’;s perspective? I agree that would be such a sad, life-changing event.
Thanks Sally. You raise a valid point about not using other peoples experiences as a barrier to improving the life chances of others. I’;m afraid I meet a number of people who really believe that children in the UK have it all. On the surface it may seem that way but the reality is very different, as you know.
